Diana Quinby wurde 1967 in New York geboren und ist eine Künstlerin und Kunsthistorikerin, die seit 1993 in Frankreich lebt und arbeitet. Sie ist in erster Linie eine Grafikkünstlerin, die sich vor allem mit großformatigen Zeichnungen in Graphit beschäftigt und deren Schwerpunkt auf Selbstporträts und dem Körper liegt. Die Erfahrung des Mutterseins spielt eine zentrale Rolle in der Entwicklung ihres Schaffens. Sie isoliert und vergrößert den Körper – meist ihren eigenen oder den von Menschen, die ihr nahestehen – und schreibt der Haut ihre eigene Geschichte ein. Außerdem ist sie eine erfahrene Grafikerin, die über mehrere Jahre hinweg ein umfangreiches Werk in Kaltnadelradierung und Radierung geschaffen hat. Seit 2015 wird sie von der Galerie Arnaud Lefebvre vertreten und stellt regelmäßig in Frankreich und Europa aus, unter anderem 2023 in der Galerie Onrust in Amsterdam und 2025 beim Zeichnungsfestival von Arles.
Als Kunsthistorikerin hat sie sich der Erforschung des Einflusses des Feminismus auf das Werk von Künstlerinnen gewidmet. Im Jahr 2003 schloss sie an der Universität Paris-1 Panthéon-Sorbonne eine Doktorarbeit zu diesem Thema ab. Sie schreibt weiterhin über das Werk anderer Künstlerinnen und organisiert gelegentlich Ausstellungen, wie beispielsweise die Hommage an die französische feministische Kunstkritikerin Aline Dallier in der Galerie Arnaud Lefebvre im März 2022. Ihre Texte erscheinen regelmäßig im Online-Magazin TK-21.
Born in New York in 1967, Diana Quinby is an artist and art historian who’s been living and working in France since 1993. She’s essentially a graphic media artist, mostly working on large scale drawings in graphite, and focusing upon self-portraiture and the body. The maternal experience has been central to the development of her work. She crops and enlarges the body – mostly her own, or the body of those close to her –, inscribing the skin with its own story. She’s also an experienced printmaker, having produced a body of work in dry-point and etching over a period of several years. Represented by the Galerie Arnaud Lefebvre since 2015, she has exhibited regularly in France and in Europe, namely at Galerie Onrust in Amsterdam in 2023 and at the Drawing Festival of Arles in 2025.
As an art historian, she has devoted herself to studying the impact of feminism upon the work of women artists. In 2003, she completed a doctoral dissertation on the subject at the University of Paris-1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She continues to write about the work of other artists and to occasionally organize exhibitions, such as the tribute to the French feminist art critic Aline Dallier at the Galerie Arnaud Lefebvre in March 2022. Her texts are regularly published in the online magazine TK-21.
